If you’ve been interested in building a Mother-in-law suite, accessory dwelling unit, or 2nd unit, then you’ve probably heard that the Boise City Council could be easing the requirements to build in the coming months. This in response to an outpouring of community input related to the difficulty of finding affordable housing in the Boise area.
Some of the changes will include: (See KTVB’s news story about the changes)
- Increase the maximum size allowed for the small structures from 600 to 700 square feet
- Allow two bedrooms instead of just one
- Removal of a reserved parking space requirement
- It is undecided whether or not the against owner-occupied requirement will be waived.
Riteway Builders has been helping families navigate the ins and outs of building a “mother in law suite” for many years, so we feel that this is great news and look forward to helping more people enjoy this affordable housing option.
Just because these spaces are smaller, doesn't mean they can't be beautiful or packed with comfort features.
